Magazine front cover
The image on the front of this magazine cover shows the main character in the film, the title states his name to the audience. With Sherlock Holmes being the main picture in the middle of the cover it shows he is the main focus of the film, the way he is standing suggests to the audience that he is layed back about what he does and his facial features provide anticipation for the audience as it is cheeky and reveals that he might be hiding information from the audience.
The Title of the film is in White and Blue, the white represents innoncence, however in this case it is used to contradict what Sherlock is because of the way he is positioned and his facial features it allows the audience to see a more cunning side to his story. The Light blue is also used to contradict what the film is about because the light blue represents freedom, although by the way he is looking relaxed it shows that he is planning to find someone and he always wins, meaning the villain will never be free.
The USP for this magazine is him followed by the title, this is because both features are used to catch the audience's attention. The rest of the magazine features are added to create an overall effect, if the other features over powered the title and image the cover would not be very effective. The little tagline beneath the title is another usp although it is not as eye catching it still reveals to the audience that Sherlock Holmes is a detective and the film will contain mystery and keep you enetertained.
The overall background image behind Sherlock is blurred this means the audience can't tell an exact location, however you can see a faint outline of what looks like building, this itnrigues the audience into wondering about where the film takes place. Sherlock's clothing shows that he is trying to blend in and that he maybe doesn't want to be in limelight as it could destroy his representation of being a detective. His clothing also suggests the time period for the film as it's not too modern and is casual, this suggests to the audience that the setting for the film could be somewhere significant to the time period.
