One Day - Official Trailer [HD]

The trailer for One Day immediately tells the audience that the genre is a romance from the peaceful music in the background which is carried out throughout the trailer enhancing the idea that their is always love between them and sometimes with that comes hostility as there love is tested throughout the film. The music helps set the mood of a romance as it corresponds to the story line allowing the audience to feel the passion and committment between the two people. The lighting is simple and the use of natural colours also helps set the genre of a romance as it inspires a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The narrative for One Day is brielfy shown through the trailer and is a classic cliche of some romance films as you see them meet for the first time and then straight after you hear the male lead say 'Maybe we should just be friends' indicating that they stay friends for most of the film going on a holiday just them two with rules that get broken such as 'No skinny dipping' which the trailer shows that being broken. After spending the night together on their college graduation Dexter and Emma are shown each year on the same date to see where they are in their lives. They are sometimes together, sometimes not, on that day.Obstacles start to form and a test of their friendship and their love is put to the test, the male lead goes through marriage, having a child, divorce and death of a loved one before realising that Emma is the one that he wants to spend his life with.

A unique selling point helps a film become different to others and so people will be more tempted to buy it due to it having a specific quality about it. For me the trailer does not have a unique selling point as it shows cliches of other films that make it so similar to some romance films, the only difference i found in the trailer is that it is based on one day a year when they keep meeting. This shows the audience their friendship and that day they first met was a very special moment for both of them. The target audience for this film are girls as it is a romance of a couple who go through some life changes that they must endure to find their true love which is right in front of their eyes. It is also aimed at children 12 and over it could be aimed at couples as it is a touching love story that may attract young couples to watch.

There are loads of two shots to shows them together on the same day when they meet, in every two shot a certain event has occured for example when she finds out he is getting married or when she says 'i love you Dex but i just don't like you anymore'. In this specific scene you see an over the shoulder shot of her embracing him tight and then the camera quickly reverts to show her back is turned to the screen as she hugs him when she says her line however the focus pull is on Dex due to his face being visible the emotion is set on his facial expression, showing that he feels that she loves him but when he finds out she doesn't like him anymore his expression drops to show dissapointment.
The next shot is a wide shot showing an intertitle zooming in on screen 'BASED ON THE #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER' this shows the audience that it has the potential to be a great film that everyone will enjoy watching. The story line should also flow and possibly have a twist at some point to make the audience respond and think are they going to be together.

The pace of the trailer is fast as each shot only lasts a few seconds before the screen blanks and then the next shot is on screen. I think that this is a bad quality for the trailer as it doesn't give the audience enough time to actually see what the shot is about so it may confuse the audience as they don't see any moment that stands out as there are so many different shots and scenarios happening. However the slowest pace of the trailer has continuity editing helping it establish a logical coherence between the shot emphasing how important this part of the film is for Dexter and that it could possibly change is life for better or for worse. The credit appears on screen 'of friendship and loss' it then shows Dexter carrying his mum upstairs indicating to the audience that his mum is not well and could possibly die leaving them wondering how he will respond to such a loss.

The first line is said by the female lead 'When we were at university i had a crush on you'. This shows the audience that the two main characters have been friends for years and that there is a chance of romance that could spark between them. The line 'Maybe we should just be friends' indicates to the audience that straight away Emma is dissapointed as she really likes Dexter, you can tell this due to a long pause before she says 'Ok'. They break the 'No skinny dipping' rule which was said by Emma showing that she is afraid that if they share a room or skinny dip then something could spark between them. Another piece of dialogue which i found important in the trailer was 'i love you Dex but i just don't like you anymore'. This shows the audience that he loves her and that when she says this line his heart just sinks as he had expectations on them being a couple. When she says ;i love you Dex' he thinks his hopes have become reality but then when it is followed by 'i just dont like you anymore' it crushes any chance that he had of them being a couple and he feels all hope is lost.
