Iron Man 2 magazine front cover
This is an effective magazine front cover as it includes many details and elements that will intrigue the audience into reading on. The image of Iron man fills most of the magazine cover highlighting his importance, he is also a well known figure for audience memebers to recognise. The title stands out as it's in white and is against his the colour red of his armour, it is in bold so it is easy to read. The tagline underneath 'NEW SUIT, NEW ENEMEIES, SAME ATTITUDE' reveals to the audience that this film will be even better than the first one with his funny personality and new adventures for him to battle.
The cover also includes added features such as the 'Plus! three amazing exclusives', this intrigues the audience as they know that they will be reading not only about IRON MAN 2, but also about three other amazing films., gives the audience more for there money. It also states an ultimate review of 2009, this could mean that the magazine talks about many films that were produced in 2009 intruiging the audience into wanting to read.
The USP for the poster is Iron Man himself this is because of how famous the figure is and the colour of his armour is eye catching to audience members. They way he is standing suggests to the audience that he is strong and confident as he is upright and bold, no sign of backing down to anyone that stands in his way. Empire is in blue near the top of the cover showing people who the magazine is made by, Empire are well known for producing magazines and they are known to be full of detail. Although half of Empire is cut out with Iron Man's head it is still recognisable, in the gap of the M it states the price for the magazine so people know how much it will cost them, for £3.99 this cover intrigues the audience as they know they will be getting a lot of information on films for that price and they know that it will be decent to read and interesting.
This magazine gives enough features for people to be intriuged, they will scan the whole cover hoping to find something that catches there eye could be an added extra like the three amazing exclusives or something like ' First look'. These compared to the previous Harry Potter cover i analysed is more effective as it is overloaded with information about the magazine, rather than a plain cover.
Harry Potter - Magazine front cover
This magazine front cover is not very effective as the title is missing, although people will know straight away that it is about Harry Potter the title should still be included to make the audience aware of the which Harry Pooter they will be reading about inside. The USP for this front cover is Harry Potter himself and the well known actor Daniel Radcliff, this immediately draws in Harry Potter fans.
Although Harry Potter is techniqually a unique selling point the rest of the poster does not have an effect on making people want to read about it, this is because there are no other elements to the poster apart from telling us that it's 'Total Film'. The background represents poewer and magic, which everyone knows the film is based on, however it does not create an effect for audience memebers to want to read on.
Without other elements such as a tagline or other captians to say what's inside the magazine, it has no overall effect and does not draw the audience's attention. A good magazine front cover should include many features such as: The Title of the film that will be mentioned
A tagline to intrigue the audience
More information on what the magazine includes
An image that overall makes the magazine cover stand out
For me this is not a good magazine front cover as i expect more detail to be covering the page rather than a single image and the magazine title, this is because withought the other elements people don't know what the magazine actually contains such as whether it's talking about just the one film or many films. It has the vital information that the audience should be told before they buy the magazine and start reading, they need to find something that intrigues them.
Magazine front cover
The image on the front of this magazine cover shows the main character in the film, the title states his name to the audience. With Sherlock Holmes being the main picture in the middle of the cover it shows he is the main focus of the film, the way he is standing suggests to the audience that he is layed back about what he does and his facial features provide anticipation for the audience as it is cheeky and reveals that he might be hiding information from the audience.
The Title of the film is in White and Blue, the white represents innoncence, however in this case it is used to contradict what Sherlock is because of the way he is positioned and his facial features it allows the audience to see a more cunning side to his story. The Light blue is also used to contradict what the film is about because the light blue represents freedom, although by the way he is looking relaxed it shows that he is planning to find someone and he always wins, meaning the villain will never be free.
The USP for this magazine is him followed by the title, this is because both features are used to catch the audience's attention. The rest of the magazine features are added to create an overall effect, if the other features over powered the title and image the cover would not be very effective. The little tagline beneath the title is another usp although it is not as eye catching it still reveals to the audience that Sherlock Holmes is a detective and the film will contain mystery and keep you enetertained.
The overall background image behind Sherlock is blurred this means the audience can't tell an exact location, however you can see a faint outline of what looks like building, this itnrigues the audience into wondering about where the film takes place. Sherlock's clothing shows that he is trying to blend in and that he maybe doesn't want to be in limelight as it could destroy his representation of being a detective. His clothing also suggests the time period for the film as it's not too modern and is casual, this suggests to the audience that the setting for the film could be somewhere significant to the time period.

Evaluation activity 4
We have used Blogger as a diary for all of our media coursework, it has details of the lead up to our trailer consisting of props, costumes, make-up and ideas. We have used this to help us keep track with the our trailer production and have been looking into poster designs alongside analysis of trailers. Blogger has been the center of our film information, allowing us to look in more detail at certain aspects. Blogger has been the easiest option to keep all our work on, it allows you to upload images, videos and screen grabs, you can add links to your work such as Prezi and powerpoints which gives you more techniques that you can use when blogging. It is a fast process which you can keep updating as you go along, if you want to add more information you can, it does not finalise your post.
We have used Youtube to upload our animatics, storyboard and our trailer along with a director's commentary. Youtube allows us to upload it to our blog, as you can't do it straight from Premier Elements. We used Youtube as it is a trusted and global website where you can easily upload footage and people can comment on the work you have done. It allows us to get some feedback from audience members and we can track how many views it has got. To upload the video from Youtube to our blog we embeded the link and added it to our blog.
We have used Premier Elements again this year for our media production, we know how to use the site and have managed to get more interesting elements from it this time around. We discovered new effects that we could use such as 'ghosting', these different elements have made improvements to our trailer. The first step to creating our trailer was to set up a new project and upload our footage, to do this;
Adobe Premier Elements 10 - setting up a new project.
Step by step instructions:
Step 1 - Change settings
Step 2 - Double click Pal
Step 3 - Double click HDV
Step 4 - Double click HDV720P25
Step 5 - Clcik OK
Save as Adobeflashvideo
presets-5th one down ~ FLVweblargepalsource (8 and higher)
-SAVE
The next step is uploading the footage to do this you click get media, click files and folders and select all the videos you want to use, it then uploads it to the site. When all the videos appear on screen, the will play if you double click them.
To begin creating the trailer we looked at all our footage and decided to play around with the order, so we dragged the videos into the boxes on the sceneline at the bottom. Once we had decided that the order was ok, we placed in the music and this helped us to fit the scenes around the pace of the music. We found some of the footage worked best with certain parts of the music and other sections didn't fit. To add music you do the same action as you would to get the footage except you click on your music that you have inyour files and folders. It then comes up in the same section as your footage, you can then drag it below your footage and it should play along with the videos.
We used the timeline part rather than sceneline after we added the music, this is because we found it easier to organise the footage and we could see how long our trailer was as it was progressing. Once we had all the music and videos together, we worked on the pace of our shots, we cut some of the clips down by moving the cursor over the clip you want to cut down and it will automatically allow you to crop the clip with a click of the mouse. You simply drag it to the exact time you want it to be.
We looked into special effects, we clicked edit on the screen and it shows you all the video effects that are available. We played around with a few to see what they looked like and whether we thought they would be effective. When on the editing part you we added our tintertitles, using the title section, this allowed you to write over a blank screen. Due to us filming in the snow some of our footage was bright from the white snow, so we looked at all the footage and decided to make it darker, to make the clips darker you choose the clip you want and there is a yellow line across it that you can drag higher or lower to change the contrast. The last thing we did after doing all the music, videos and editing was to add the twisted pictures at the begnining, we did this by downloading the clip from youtube onto a memory stick and then uploaded it to Premier Elements. During the process it did not crash and our trailer came out well, we had no problems with the footage or editing.
We used the school tripod to keep our filming steady and accurate, although some of the shots we wanted to look like it was someone holding the camera so it was alright for them to not look professional. The tripod was easy to handle although when filming in the snow it was harder to get it sturdy, causing us some problems as it took more time to set up, however it was simple to use as it held the camera in place and gave us the shots we wanted. The tripod allowed us to create a variety of shots, as we could make it lower to the ground or make it higher, we used it to pan so that it was flowing and not shaking. If we hadn't used a tripod our shots would have been less professional and it would have shown in our trailer, the effect of the trailer would be different as some of the shots wouldn't of looked right. The tripod gives you the chance to create perfect shots that you want and you are not worried about it moving.
We used Kellie's camera to film as we knew it had a clear image and we could use it accurately, it was light and easy to handle. It fitted onto the tripod and we were able to film many shots, we didn't have to worry about any shots not coming out right. With the camera we were able to zoom in or zoom out creating different angles and shots to establish certain aspects of the trailer. The camera was fine when filming and when uploading the shots onto the computer it was fast and there were no problems with the footage being too high in resolution. We used it for the basic filming of the shots, everything else was down to how we edited it on the computer for special effects.

Six Degrees Of Hell (2012)
- Genre Indicators: From the trailer you can tell that Six Degrees Of Hell is a horror due to the characters that are revealed to the audience such as; a creepy clown, a girl who looks like a zombie, a scary man with blood on his face and an eerie man in a tux that looks like he is part of an 'act'. These characters reveal to the audience that the group of teenagers are in trouble and maybe one by one they turn evil. Another genre indicator is the fast pace scenes in the end of trailer they show the six people struggling to survive against these other characters, it adds to the atmosphere of danger and creates suspense for audience members as they battle to save themselves.
- Narrative: Six individuals get caught up with an evil supernatural storm that attempts to take over the town, along the way the characters realise that one of them is possessed by evil. A building is shown at the beginning and the dialogue 'It absorbs evil' highlights to audience members that the building may have some significance later in the film. At the beginning the trailer reveals that someone has died and one of the girls has seem them, however it shows that she could be the sixth degree of hell. The next time you see the building is when one of the characters says 'Jack's got to shut this place down' this reveals to the audience that evil has started to take over and anyone who enters the building is in danger. However the next shot shows a bunch of people turning up for it's opening night unaware of what could happen. The next few shots afterwards show the different characters facing revealing panic, two of the characters lift the lid to a coffin showing that no one is in it, the next shot is of the girl looking like a zombie is this the evil force they are scared of?. It then goes into the fast paced shots revealing pain for the characters, the clown says 'And your all part of the act', this intrigues the audience into thinking that each character has it own part to play with the evil spirit. A guy at the end of the trailer with black where his eyes should be says 'Now look whose possessed'. This shows the audience that the others are becoming evil and acting different, although he is aware that he is possessed himself.
- Intertitles: 'HELL' is the first intertitle to be revealed to the audience during the fast paced action, this highlights the importance of the evil as it comes from hell, which is known for danger and containing evil spirits. The next Intertitles are 'BREAKS' and 'LOOSE' these are important aspects as they reveals that whatever is after them has broken free and will not stop until it has completed it's course. The title '6 DEGREES OF HELL' is the last intertitle to be seen it expands on the black background highlighting the danger. The title reveals to the audience that there are 6 degrees of hell, intriguing the audience into wondering whether the 6 characters each control one of these degree's.

Mama - Official Trailer (2013)
In the trailer you can see genre indicators, these tell the audience that this film is a horror. The first genre indicator is the music as it is slow and eery, also when the old man enters the house and sees the creature this tells the audience that the creature is something to be feared of. The next genre indicator is when the mother says' They talk to walls', this intrigues the audience into watching the film as it could be supernatural with ghosts, creatures and maybe posession. Another genre indicator is when the mum tries to show affection to one of the girls and she says 'I don't want you to get hurt'. The girl seems frightened of something watching her and is scared for the new mum's life, this makes the audience wonder what it is that she is scared of could it be Mama? The last genre indicator reveals one of the girls laughing in an evil way, with a shadow appearing in the background, this shows the audience that the girl enjoys watching Mama create danger and possesses some evil within herself.
The music stays at a constant level throughout the trailer, changing it's tone slightly when the girls first step out of the car, to show a new beginning. It then changes again to a lower tone when it is revealed that they talk to walls, this is to show that there is danger approaching. The music gets more dark and mysterious when one of the girls is being shown affection, this signifies that someone is annoyed at what they see and that bad things are going to happen. Nearer the end of the trailer there is a faint sound of someone humming, this adds to the atmosphere that the trailer is trying to make. The humming is used to create a build up of tension and creepiness for audience members, this is to make them intrigued as to what will happen next.
The pace of the trailer is slow to start for most of it as it highlights the girls conditions that they have been in over the last years, it shows the audience how the couple ended up taking them home. It also reveals a butterfly that appears at certain points throughout the trailer, leaving an enigma for audience members as they wonder if the butterfly resembles Mama. Once the trailer shows what looks like a woman being posessed in the kitchen and the girl saying 'Mama stop it, you promised'.
Narrative: Mama is a horror/mystery about a couple who are raising the guys two neices. His two neices were left alone for 5 years to defend for themselves in the forest. The trailer holds the audience in suspence throughout as they want to know more about who Mama really is, however it builds on the anticipation as it shows the children talking to walls, fearing love and a strange shadow appearing. The plot revolves around the mystery of the girls and the audience finding out who Mama is, how bad is the character Mama?, what can she do?, is she still alive or dead?. The scene were the girls are hugging each other as the first step out of the car reveals a hint to the audience that one of the girls might be calling 'Mama'. The next scene that links to this is when the two girls are drawing on the walls, the little girl looks over and the audience see a butterfly, could this be Mama?. Another scene that shows that Mama might be evil is when the older girl and the new mum are in the bathroom, she tries to comfort her and the child is terrified about something bad happening if she is shown affection. This reveals to the audience that they are not alone and were never alone in the forest, Mama could be angry if they children are shown affection by anyone other than her. The last scene shows the little girl laughing when the new mum asks who 'Mama' is, this leaves the audience to wonder if the little girl is evil and what will happen next. The shots before show chaos happening with the oldwer girl saying 'Mama you promised' this could show that Mama is annoyed at something and has broken her word of keeping quiet and not causing problems. An enigma for the audience to the think about is whether Mama is real or their imagination due to them being isolated in the woods for 5 years.
Target audience:
It is for a target audience of 15 as the trailer shows jumps and scary aspects, it does not contain gore and although skeletons are revealed in the trailer, it does not show any killings involved to other characters however being a horror the audience expect death. I think this film will be mainly revlved around suspence, antcipation and jumps. Although these are key features the narrative suggests that it is not suitable for a younger audience as it shows seperation from people and how the children have become obssessed with what they call Mama. This could give nightmare's to younger viewers and creep them out. The film aims for a more psychological approach with the mystery of figuring things out.
USP: The USP for this trailer is the character of Mama, they show a butterfly in some of the shots showing that maybe Mama can transform into different things. The audience are intrigued by this character as they want to know more about this creature, this is different to other horrors as the trailer shows a figure following the children, overloooking rather than an outright killer.
